DIABETES AND DIET




Excessive hunger, urination, thirst and weakness are the main characteristic features of
Of the diabetes in which the blood sugar level goes up and sugar appears in the urine. In Ayurveda this disease is known as ‘Madhumeha’

DIET AND REGIMENS IN DIABETES:

In this disease one should consume medicine daily likewise one should follow the
Diet and other regimens is also very important.
- Rice, Wheat, Ragi all are having equal percentage of carbohydrates and gives same calories and also increases blood sugar level in same quantity. So there is no harm if patient is consuming limited quantity of food, it may be rice.
- Eat more fibrous fruits before consuming food & quantity should be one or one and half.
- Quantity should be controlled while eating elakki banana, orange, watermelon(1 piece), apple, papaya (1 piece), pineapple (1 piece), pomegranate fruits.
- Mango, walnut, almond, grapes-while eating these fruits quantity should be very less
I.e. eat one small piece of mango once in a day if you eagerly want.
- Totally avoid big size banana, khajura, dry grapes, custard apple, sapota, jackfruit etc.
- Eat something before going to party. There eat food which is favorable to your health.
Don’t eat junk food.
- Avoid more fat. It shouldn’t be more than four teaspoonfuls per day.
- Cut down artificial sugar. If you eagerly want to drink & blood sugar level is also in control, drink half teaspoonful mixed tea or coffee once or twice a day.
- Instead of frying eatables, boiling or cooking is healthier.
- Don’t eat anything in large quantity at a time.
- Vegetables like bitter gourd, drumstick & its leaves, fruits of trichosanthes dioica, Trichosanthes cucumerina & coccinia indica are more useful in this condition. In general
all bitter foods are good for this disease.
- Moderate exercise helps one to maintain weight & sugar level. Keep 30 minutes daily
for the exercise.
- Daily measure the blood sugar level & note down, by this your doctor will get accurate information about your health.
- Consume medicine as per your doctor’s advice, by this health will be in proper condition.
- The patient should take care not to cut or injure himself because in diabetics the healing
process is very slow, by this every possibility of the wound becoming septic.
- Diabetic patient should observe each & every small changes in their legs like boils, wound, swelling etc. Along with this take care about nails also. After washing legs,
wipe properly with cotton cloth.
- Avoid smoking & drinking.
- Totally avoid sleep during day time.

DIET AND OTHER REGIMENS IN SPRUE SYNDROME


Sprue syndrome is a chronic disease characterized by frothy stools, indigestion,sore mouth, loss of weight & anaemia along with diarrhea.Usually the patient passes a
Large quantity of stool early morning after get-up.The stool is containing mucus.

According to Ayurveda, this condition is ‘Grahani roga.’

DIET AND OTHER REGIMENS:
- Butter-milk and Pomegranate is best diet in this condition.
- Decoction prepared with the tender leaf or skin of Pomegranate fruit is very useful in this condition.
- The patient should use butter-milk in large quantities is good.
- Drink butter-milk mixed with fried powder of cumin seed & rock salt is tasteful good diet.
- Gruel prepared by rice mixed with salt & and butter-milk is very suitable in this condition.
- Keeping the patient on butter-milk alone helps to quick recovery from this disease.
- The patient can be given orange fruits & its juice, ripe banana.
- All dry fruits except dry grapes are contra indicated in this condition.
- Among vegetables, the patient can take drumstick, banana, flowers of banana, bitter gourd, tomato, snake-gourd, and the white variety of pumpkin.
- Contra-indicated vegetables in this condition are potato, yellow variety of pumpkin,
Lady’s finger and leafy vegetables, beans etc.
- Egg, meat and fish are also contra indicated in this condition.
- Even though a patient suffers from diarrhea, he may at times also get constipated. In some cases diarrhea & constipation follow one after the other. If patient is having constipation, the husk of isabgol (Plantago ovata) may be given to the patient in a dose of
two teaspoonfuls mixed with butter- milk at bed time.
- Should drink boiled water.
- The patient should take sufficient rest. He is suggested to sleep for one hour during day time.
- Patient should sleep at night time properly.
- Should not fast for a prolonged period.
- Over-exertion, grief, fear, anxiety, anger etc. should be avoided.
- Light exercise or morning walk is very useful.

Consuming medicine (prescribed by doctor) properly and sufficient rest along with
Proper diet will help one to get rid off from this disease as early as possible.

AYURVEDIC TREATMENT FOR INDIGESTION


Indigestion is not a disease by itself. It is a symptom of many other diseases. It might be caused by some disturbances in the stomach or intestines. It might also be caused by some diseases in other parts of the body. One may suffer from indigestion by over eating or eating the wrong food in wrong manner.

THE MAIN SYMPTOMS OF INDIGESTION ARE:
-         A feeling of heaviness in the stomach.
-         Pain abdomen.
-         Nausea.
-         Vomiting.
-         Diarrhea.
-         Burning sensation in the chest.
-         Acid eructation.
-         Fatigue etc

According to ayurveda, this condition is called ‘agnimandya’ causes are aggravation of vata, pitta and kapha dosas. When vata is vitiated, there is more pain; when pitta is vitiated, there is more of burning sensation. When kapha is vitiated, there is more nausea and vomiting.
Psychic factors like anxiety, anger, worry plays an important role in the digestion of food. According to ayurveda, the food taken in proper time and in proper quantity does not get digested, if the individual is suffering from worry, anger, and anxiety etc. mental afflictions.

TREATMENT:

In ayurveda, both chronic and acute types of indigestion can be treated successfully. Treatment should be given depending upon the symptoms of indigestion.

-         Hingvastaka churna is best medicine for the indigestion. Hingvastaka churna should be given along with butter-milk after food at morning and afternoon. Night time, it should be taken along with 1st morsel of food.

Sanjeevini vati, lashunadi vati, kumaryasava, trikatu churna etc. ayurvedic medicines also there for indigestion, but one should take under the suggestion of doctor.

DIET AND OTHER REGIMENS:

-         It is better to fast, and drink Luke warm water.
-         The patient should be given light diet.
-         Avoid the solid food and drink a glass of salt mixed lemon juice.
-         Drinking butter-milk which is mixed with a pinch of asafetida powder is very good in this condition.
-         Garlic is also healthy in indigestion.
-         Sleep after lunch, during day time should be avoided.
-         Should not awake at late night.
-         Patient should be free from anxieties and worries.
-         In acute indigestion, physical and mental rest is necessary, but in chronic indigestion the patient should do physical exercise.

HOARSENESS OF VOICE



Voice is the life for every human being, especially for the singer, teacher, lawyer, but sometimes its condition will become very worst. They should take care of their voice always. The inflammation of throat including the pharynx and larynx causes ‘hoarseness of voice’. According to ayurveda, it is ‘svaravabheda’.

CAUSES:
-         Infection
-         The intake of excess hot and cold drinks.
-         An abnormal growth and foreign material.
-         Infections of the lungs by tuberculosis etc. are the main factors responsible for the causation of svaravabheda.

SYMPTOMS:
-         The patient may not be able to speak easily.
-         There might be pain during speech.
-         It may be associated with fever and cough.
-         The tongue usually remains coated.
-         If the patient is constipated, the condition may be aggravated.

TREATMENT:
- The patient should be given the powder of madhuyasti in a dose of one tea spoonful 4 to 5 times a day along with honey.
- Gargling with irimedadi taila is very useful in this condition.
- Gargling with triphala kashaya also very useful.
- Khadiradi vati should be kept in mouth and chewed slowly.
-  I f patient had constipation, should be given the one teaspoonful of triphala powder along with hot water at bed time.
- Hot fomentation is useful in this condition.

DIET AND OTHER REGIMENS:
            Garlic, black pepper, ginger, dry grapes and ghee in proper quantity useful in this condition.

-         The patient should avoid curd, other sour foods, fried foods, fatty foods and cold foods.
-         Shouldn’t use cold water.
-         The patient should not expose to cold wind and cold water.
-         Should avoid taking head bath for few days.
